Eric Hermès

Erich or Eric Hermès was born in Ludwigshafen a. Rhein, Germany in 1881 and died in Geneva in 1971. He was a painter, stained-glass artist, graphic designer and sculptor.
After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, Hermès went on study trips to Italy, Paris and Munich. He mainly worked on decorative and monumental commissions, murals and stained-glass windows for various churches. His work was influenced by Ferdinand Hodler and by turn-of-the-century art in Switzerland, Germany and France, by Art Nouveau, naturalism, symbolism and even New Objectivity. Hermès only occasionally designed posters.
